The fine print
What this compares. Your current average power bill of $195 a month
against your solar payment of $162.00 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated
at 7.5% per year, solar at 2.99% per year.
Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and
would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard
connection fee.
Where the numbers come from. System specs, production, offset, the
$162.00 monthly payment and the 2.99% solar escalator were all read
from your EMPWR proposal on 2026-07-30. The
7.5% utility escalation is Rundle Solar's standard planning assumption,
not a figure from the proposal.
Appalachian Power Co rates are moving. Appalachian Power asked Virginia regulators in May 2026 for a $61.4 million increase, about $9.10 a month for a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours. That request is still under review and would not take effect before March 2027. A separate order already approved rates adding about $4.36 a month for that same typical customer. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
